Southeast Asia’s largest solar power plant to be built in Ninh Thuan

VGP - A 450MW solar power plant, the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia, will be built in Phuoc Minh commune in the south central province of Ninh Thuan.

The project investor, Trung Nam Group, said construction of the solar farm would start in the second quarter of this year and be completed in the fourth quarter.

The VND14 trillion (US$592 million) plant will begin generating power by the end of this year.

The company will also build a 500kV substation and install 500kV and 220kV transmission lines to connect the farm with the national grid.

The provincial People's Committee has told the investor to ensure the project is completed on schedule.

Earlier in April 2019, a cluster of three solar power plants with a combined capacity of 330MWp in Thuan Nam district, the south central province of Ninh Thuan, was put into operation and connected to the national grid.

This is the largest cluster of solar power plants in Southeast Asia so far.

Built with a total investment of 7 trillion VND (301.3 million USD), with over 1 million solar panels were installed, the cluster is expected to produce about 600 million kWh of electricity and serve about 200,000 households per year, and contribute to reducing about 300,000 tonnes of CO2 discharged into the environment per year.

Under its socio-economic master plan, the province seeks to become the country’s renewable energy hub with a total capacity of 8,000MW by 2030.
