The report was presented at the ongoing seventh session of the 14th National Assembly on June 6 in Ha Noi.

According to Mr. Minh, the region is witnessing extremely fast and complicated developments with unexpected trade disputes. Meanwhile, the country is struggling against the African swine fever which has spread widely and affected pig production.

However, thanks to the drastic endeavors of the whole political system, the business community, and people, the socio-economic performance continued to follow the positive trend as the Government had reported to the National Assembly.

Specifically, the macro-economy was stable. Consumption price index (CPI) rose 2.74% in the first five months, the lowest level over the past three years. Agricultural production was stable. Industrial production index increased by 9.4% of which the processing and manufacturing sector picked up 11.6% which is a record high over the last five years.

Total demand continued to surge sharply. Total retail sales of goods and services jumped by 11.6%.

Viet Nam attracted 7.3 million foreign arrivals in the first five months, up 8.8% against the same period last year.

The FDI sector absorbed US$ 9 billion, representing a year-on-year growth of 27.1%, disbursing US$ 7.3 million of capital (up 7.8%).

Export turnover hit over US$ 100 million, up 6.7%.

Nearly 54,000 enterprises were founded in the reviewed time, up 3.2% in number and 29.6% in registered capital. About 20,000 enterprises resumed operation.

Other fields of culture, society and environment continued to receive due attention. People’s living standards were improved.
The Government cracked down on large drug trafficking and online gambling cases. Political security, social order, and diplomatic activities were accelerated.

However, according to Deputy PM Minh, the socio-economic performance continued to cope with numerous difficulties and challenges. A large number of issues caused public concerns  including school  violation, drug  trafficking, exam cheating, gambling, murders, serious traffic accidents and so on.

In the coming time, the Government will continue to direct relevant ministries, agencies, and localities to keep a close watch on the international and domestic markets and strive for the preset goals, the Deputy PM stressed./.
