Serious floods claim 26 lives

VGP – The serious floods from August 1-6 left 26 deaths and caused severe property losses.

Of the fatalities, six were reported in Yen Bai province; 12 in Lai Chau province; two in Lai Chau province; five in Dien Bien province; one in Cao Bang provinces. In addition, 15 others were reported missing.

Heavy rains and serious landslides swept away 231 houses and affected 425 others. About 398 households were evacuated. As many as 338.5 hectares of paddy rice were damaged.

Total loss was estimated at VND 940 billion.  

The Permanent Office of the Central Committee for natural disaster prevention and control asked for continual effort to search for the missing; repair houses; protect the environment; combat diseases; and early restore production.  

More efforts were asked to ensure transport circulation especially at national and provincial roads and isolated areas./.
