The festival 2011 aims at honoring rice growers, highlighting rice supply capacity, and boosting trade of rice and other Vietnamese agricultural produce.

The Government asked organizers to focus on setting up partnership between foreign and local enterprises, and organizing seminars to seek ways to raise the values of the Vietnamese rice and other related products.

The first Việt Nam Rice Festival, themed “For the development of agriculture, farmers and rural areas,” took place in the southern province of Hậu Giang on November 28-December 1, 2009 to highlight the country’s wet-rice civilization, potentialities and strengths in rice production as well as trademark of the Vietnamese rice on the world market.

Participants to the first event included the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), and many of Việt Nam’s rice importers.
