Currently, with the export growth and favourable factors from foreign markets, the country’s seafood exports in the fourth quarter of this year are expected to rake in higher export value than during the same period last year.

According to the directorate, aquatic output is estimated to reach nearly 3.6 million tons this year, up 5.96% over the previous year.

Of the figure, export revenue of tra (pangasius) fish hit US$2.26 billion, up 26.4%, said Oai at a conference on December 24 to review the Directorate’s performance in 2018 and launch tasks in 2019.

For 2019, the sector set its target of raising aquatic production value by 4.25% compared to 2018. Total aquatic output is expected to hit 7.9 million tons, while export revenue should take in US$10 billion, up 11.1%.

According to seafood export processing enterprises, the end of the four quarter is typically the time when enterprises increase their purchases of raw materials and increase the signing of export contracts for the holidays in the importing markets.

Demand for catfish continue to increase in the last months of the year and shrimp prices recover slightly after consecutive months of decline.
