Viet Nam always attaches importance to the Strategic Partnership with Russia, backing Russia to strengthen its role and status in the Asia-Pacific region and expecting to promote Viet Nam-Russia relations more intensively and practically, confirmed the Vietnamese Deputy PM.

The outcomes of the 22th session of the Viet Nam-Russia Inter-Governmental Committee have manifested that the two sides have focused on handling obstacles related to the bilateral cooperation and exchanging measures to enhance the two nations’ relationship more effectively.

As the two-way trade value witnessed a year-on-year decrease of 1.4% over the recent nine months of 2019, reaching US$3.4 billion, Binh suggested Viet Nam and Russia tackle non-tariff barriers to maximize benefits brought by the Viet Nam-Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) Free Trade Agreement such as threshold tax, electronic labeling and expanding market for agricultural-forestry-aquatic products.

Binh regards petrol cooperation as a strategic cooperative sector in the two nations’ ties, adding that Viet Nam advocates and facilitates Russia’s petrol enterprises to expand exploitation of oil and gas on the continental shelf of Viet Nam.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Maxim Akimov asserted that the cooperative relationship with Viet Nam is the unconditional priority of Russia in Asia.

Viet Nam will preside over the ASEAN Chairmanship 2020, which will facilitate the cooperation between the two nations in all fields, he said, congratulating Viet Nam on its election to become a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the 2020-2021 tenure, a crucial event not only for Viet Nam but also the whole world in maintaining peace and stability in the region and the world.

The occasion, the two leaders shared viewpoints on outstanding cooperative areas and other important projects.
