Roles of business community in rapid, sustainable development highlighted

VGP – Deputy PM Trinh Dinh Dung affirmed that the Vietnamese Government acknowledges and highlights the roles of enterprises in the nation’s rapid and sustainable development process at the Mid-term Viet Nam Business Forum 2019 (VBF2019) held on June 26 in Ha Noi.

Rapid and sustainable development is the consistent guideline in the nation’s development strategy, asserted Dung, highlighting the importance of harmonizing the relationship between economic growth and social development and environmental protection. 

He re-affirmed big measures that the Vietnamese Government continues to realize in the time ahead, including maintaining the  macro-economy and stabilizing politics and the society, restructuring the economy and reforming the State-owned enterprises, banking system, controlling State budget deficit and public debt and reforming the tax system more effectively.  

Viet Nam will give priority to investment in sustainable infrastructure development to create smart connectivity, reduce expenditures for transactions and improve competitiveness of businesses, investors and the economy, he said. 

The Government calls for investment in education and science and technology, improving the quality of the human resources and supporting the business community, heading to a recirculating economy and innovation in business. 

The Deputy PM referred to upgrading the quality of institutions, policies and laws in the manner of enhancing transparency, safety and effectiveness amid the Industry 4.0. 

Viet Nam needs to complete the institution to encourage innovation and start-up and facilitate enterprises to invest in renewing technology and join research and development and artificial intelligent, he added. 

The nation will continue launching multilateralism and diversification of diplomatic relations and enhancing international and regional integration, especially participating in new free trade agreements with developed nations and region, Dung confirmed. 

The Deputy PM highlighted the social responsibilities of enterprises in three aspects of economics, law and morality. 

As many as 54,000 new firms were set up in early months of 2019, the highest number over the recent five years, and 19,600 enterprises re-operated.

According to the survey on business trend in the first quarter of 2019 compared to the fourth quarter of 2018, 85.1% of enterprises assessed their operation got better and stabilized. 

Viet Nam moved up in the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2018 Report to take the 45th position this year, up from the 47th spot last year. The nation jumped 11 steps in the Sustainable Development Goals Report 2018, ranking 57th among 156 nations and territories. 

With the theme “Roles of business community in rapid and sustainable development”, the event attracted the participation of 500 delegates from domestic and foreign enterprises, management agencies, diplomatic agencies, international organizations and 13 foreign business associations in Viet Nam. 

The VBF is a continuous and close dialogue mechanism between the Vietnamese Government and the international and domestic business community with a view to improving necessary business conditions to boost the development of the private sector, bettering the investment environment and contributing to the nation’s sustainable economic growth.
