Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue holds phone talks with Speaker of the National Assembly (NA) of the Republic of Korea (RoK) Park Byeong-seug, June 23, 2021.

Park made the above statement during his phone conversation with Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue on Wednesday.

Viet Nam and the Republic of Korea established diplomatic relations on December 22, 1992, elevating the bilateral ties to “comprehensive partnership in the 21st century” in 2002 before lifting to strategic comprehensive partnership seven years later.

Vuong spoke highly of the Northeast Asian country’s new southern policy as it would create huge opportunities for both sides to further strengthen the bilateral relationship.

He affirmed Viet Nam stands ready to work with the Republic of Korea to advance the strategic comprehensive partnership to a new height and suggested the two countries’ foreign ministries and relevant agencies to define the content of cooperation for such partnership level.

Vuong thanked the Republic of Korea for supporting Viet Nam’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, including its recent donation of 40 modern thermal imaging scanners and welcomed the two countries’ extension of a memorandum of understanding on sending and receiving Vietnamese laborers working in the Republic of Korea in accordance with the Employment Permit System (EPS).

He said Viet Nam has played a responsible role and made proactive contributions to global peace and development issues, including the joint efforts in accelerating peace and dialogue on the Korean Peninsula while calling on the Republic of Korea to continue support for Viet Nam to successfully fulfill its role as the non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council in the tenure 2020-2021.

The two top legislators agreed that both sides should further step up legislative cooperation and mutual support at multilateral parliamentary forums and mechanisms, thus contributing to maintain and ensure peace and security in the region and the world./.
