Rice exports likely to hit 6.5 million tons in 2018

VGP – Viet Nam is likely to export 6.5 million tons of rice in 2018 compared to 5.8 million tons in 2017, according to Vice Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Ha Cong Tuan.

March 04, 2018 5:42 PM GMT+7

Tuan said about 80% of rice exports this year will be of high quality.

In the first two months, Viet Nam shipped 861,000 tons of rice, worth US$419 million, up 17% and 34% in terms of quantity and value compared to the same period last year.

The Philippines is the biggest importer with 26.9%, followed by China with 23.5%, Tuan said.

Last year, Viet Nam gained US$2.6 billion from rice exports.

Meanwhile, Thailand's Rice Exporters Association predicts this year’s rice exports will hit 9.5 million tons.
