PM Nguyen Tan Dung made that statement at the Viet Nam Development Partnership Forum (VDPF) held in Ha Noi on December 5.

Progress in growth and development

Co-hosting the forum, World Bank's Country Director for Viet Nam Victoria Kwakwa applauded the Vietnamese Government’s efforts and the moves it has taken to implement the Socio-economic Development Strategy over the past five years.

She also laid stress on the adoption of suitable development motives, especially the creation of an economy of higher competitiveness which include healthy market institutions, to raise the economy to a higher status.

In the context of the global economic slowdown, Ms. Victoria Kwakwa highly valued the Vietnamese Government in maintaining the macro-economy, controlling inflation, maintaining growth and guaranteeing social welfare.

She suggested Viet Nam work out policies and measures to rapidly and sustainably reduce poverty and develop in accordance with environmental protection.

Thanks to successes in achieving the Millennium Development Goal on poverty reduction and increasing its status as a partner in international development, Viet Nam plays a crucial role in establishing a development agenda in the post-2015 period, said United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator in Viet Nam Pratibha Mehta.

The UN and its partners are ready to stand with the Vietnamese Government in development process and help Viet Nam fulfill its set goals and aspiration, she added.

PM asks for more assistance from partners, donors

PM Nguyen Tan Dung told partners about specific and realistic fields for the nation’s sustainable development.

Viet Nam focuses on restructuring the economy, transferring the growth model and guaranteeing effectiveness, competitiveness and sustainable development of the economy, the PM stressed.

The nation will launch effectively three strategic breakthroughs including improving market economy institution, mobilizing all resources for infrastructure improvement and training high-quality human resources, he added.

Besides, the Vietnamese Government will realize measures to guarantee social welfare and security by creating more jobs, reducing poverty especially for ethnic minorities, upgrading infrastructure at disadvantaged areas and continuing to combat corruption.

To achieve these goals, PM Dung hoped that development partners and donors will continue its assistance for Viet Nam in policy consultancy, technical assistance and resources.
