The deputy PM made the call at a December 11 reception in Ha Noi for Qatari State Minister for Foreign Affairs Soltan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi, who is on an official visit to Viet Nam from December 10 to 12.

Welcoming the guest delegation, Minh voiced his pleasure at the fine developments in cooperative relations between the two countries over the past few years.

He emphasized a number of specific measures in order to further strengthen the efficiency of bilateral cooperation in the time ahead, especially in the fields of economy and trade, with two-way trade targeted to hit US$1 billion.

Viet Nam wishes to greet Qatar’s high-level delegations in 2018 as the two countries celebrate 25 years of their diplomatic ties, thus creating a premise to expand cooperative relations between the two sides, the deputy PM said.

He congratulated Qatar on its selection as the host country of the World Cup 2022, whilst asking the Qatari side to increase the reception of Vietnamese laborers to work in the country.

For his part, Qatari State Minister for Foreign Affairs Soltan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi highly appreciated the significant achievements Viet Nam has obtained during its socio-economic development and international integration process, affirming that the Qatari Government values and wishes to strengthen cooperative relations with Viet Nam.

* Earlier on the same day, Deputy Foreign Minister Vu Hong Nam held talks with the Qatari State Minister for Foreign Affairs, during which both sides affirmed their determination to enhance and further develop the friendly cooperative relations in the time ahead, whilst pledging to strengthen the exchanges at all levels, especially at the high level.

The two sides also agreed to work closely at international forums and organizations, especially the United Nations; accelerate the partnership between the two Foreign Ministries; and soon organize the second political consultation between the two ministries, moving towards establishing the periodic consultation mechanism in order to discuss issues of mutual concern.

In regards to economic cooperation, both sides pledged to continue facilitating bilateral trade and investment cooperation, further enhance cooperation between the two countries’ commerce and industry chambers, boost trade promotion activities, and create favorable conditions for their businesses to access the investment and business markets.

The two sides also agreed to expand collaboration in some other potential fields, such as labor, security, energy, banking, tourism and agriculture.
