Answer: Under Decision 921/2005/QĐ-NHNN of the State Bank of Việt Nam (SBV), dated on June 27, 2005, Vietnamese people or foreigners can carry US $7,000 or other foreign currencies of the same value or VND 15 million in cash upon entry into and exit from the country.

If you bring more cash, you are obliged to report to the competent customs agencies and present necessary papers.

The regulation is invalid to credit cards, saving books, and holdings.

Under Article 10 of Decree 97/2007/NĐ-CP dated on June 7, 2007 by the Government, violators will be penalized from VND 500,000 to VND 70 million for bringing the excess of VND 10 million to VND 100 million in and out Việt Nam./.
