Prime Minister sets three major tasks for growth rate of 8.5% in 2007

VNGOVNet – Concluding the Government’s January regular meeting, Prime Minister Nguyễn Tấn Dũng set three major targets to achieve a growth rate of 8.5% in 2007.

February 01, 2007 9:47 AM GMT+7

Reporting at the meeting, the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the Ministry of Trade said the domestic market in the run-up to the traditional lunar New Year holiday has become boisterous with producers of garments, confectionary, domestic utilities, etc., in a bid to meet consumers’ tastes, offering so great amounts of quality supplies in a wide variety of types and designs that there seems to be no price bubble triggered by any short supply. To ensure food hygiene and safety for consumers, the health sector has intensified inspection and control over transport of animals and slaughtering houses. In natural calamities-damaged localities, local authorities have been reportedly getting around quite a lot to learn about people's hardships and provide them with supplies to enjoy a happy new year.

Concluding the meeting, the PM set three major tasks to fulfill:

Firstly, to take synchronic measures to boost socio-economic development, first of all, tackle difficulties in agricultural production by urgently fighting the draught that is wreaking havoc on the 2006–2007 winter-spring rice crop and curbing the spread of bird flu towards extinguishment, tighten control over the stock market to make sure it grows on a stable and sustainable pattern.

Secondly, to boost administrative reforms. On a monthly basis, ministries, sectors and local authorities have to report to the Government what they have achieved in the previous month in this regard and what to do in the next. Only by speeding up administrative reforms and removing red-tapes and troublesome procedures can it be made easier for people to do business and the economy be stimulated for a sustainable and rapid growth.

Thirdly, to intensify the fight against corruption. The PM reminded the competent agencies to speed up the publicized handling of burning cases and the making of legal documents against corruption./.
