VGP – The Prime Minister has recognised Ben Tre and Ha Tinh as second-class cities.

February 15, 2019 5:29 PM GMT+7

Specifically, in his Decision No. 174/QD-TTg, the Government leader recognized Ben Tre as a type-II city under Ben Tre province.

Over the past few years, Ben Tre city has strongly promoted its potential and advantages, mobilized all resources, created a favorable environment to attract investment in industrial parks and clusters; and paid due attention to the construction of technical and social infrastructure and the development of trade and tourism. The local socio-economic situation has seen new progress, with the economic structure shifting in a positive direction. In particular, the city’s urban infrastructure has developed vigorously in recent years, contributing to building a civilized urban face.

Together with Ben Tre city, the PM also recognized Ha Tinh as a second-class city under the central province of Ha Tinh in his Decision No. 175/QD-TTg.

Previously, Ha Tinh city was recognized as a type-III city in 2007. After 11 years, it was upgraded to a second-class city. Under the direction of the provincial Party Committee, People’s Council and People’s Committee, and the coordination and support from provincial-level departments, Ha Tinh city has mobilized a lot of resources to invest in socio-economic development, infrastructure construction and urban embellishment.

Up to now, the local economy has grown at a continuous high growth rate, with the economic structure shifting positively in the direction of increasing the proportion of industry-construction and trade-service and reducing the proportion of agriculture and forestry. The socio-economic infrastructure has been strengthened, while the urban face has seen many innovations. In addition, the city’s political system has been consolidated, alongside improvements in the lives of local people.

The recognition of Ben Tre city and Ha Tinh city as second-class cities offers an important condition to build position, strongly attract investment resources, and create a driving force for socio-economic development for the two cities.
