Press should work to consolidate social trust and consensus: PM

VGP – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has asked press agencies to accompany the government, ministries, sectors, and localities in the information and communication work, while working to consolidate social trust and consensus in the implementation of the Party and State’s guidelines and policies.

The government leader made the statement during his reception for veteran journalists and leaders of press agencies in Ha Noi on June 20, as part of celebrations of the 93rd anniversary of the Viet Nam Revolutionary Journalism Day (June 21, 1925-2018).

PM Phuc extended his congratulations to journalists nationwide, affirming that the Vietnamese revolutionary press always remains a key force of important position in the ideological and cultural front, contributing significantly to the Party’s revolutionary cause as well as the cause of national construction and protection.

The leader hailed the strong development of Vietnamese press, with more than 36,000 people working in the field, nearly 850 press agencies nationwide, over 18,000 journalists with journalist cards, and more than 22,000 members of the Viet Nam Journalists’ Association.

However, he also pointed out a number of shortcomings that Vietnamese press needs to seriously examine and address, including the situation of commercialization, group interests, individual interest, and the lopsided coverage of news to attract views.

PM Phuc urged press agencies to focus on disseminating the hot and pressing issues to the people, ensuring the accordance with the Party’s guidelines and the State’s policies and laws, while getting involved in supervising agencies in the State administrative system in the implementation of the government’s motto “discipline, integrity, action, creativity, and efficiency”.

Press should continue to promoting its leading role in combating hostilities, fighting to protect national territorial sovereignty, proactively refuting false information, and orientating the public opinion, he said.

He asked the functional agencies to research, review and finalize the relevant mechanisms and policies in order to improve the income and quality of life for journalists and employees working in press agencies.

On the occasion, PM Phuc presented gifts to veteran journalists and representatives of press agencies.
