VOV marks 70th founding anniversary

The Voice of Viet Nam (VOV) on September 7 in Ha Noi held a meeting to celebrate its 70th founding anniversary (September 7, 1945-September 7, 2015) and reception of First Class Independent Medal for the second time.

The event was attended by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, former State President Le Duc Anh, former Party and State leaders, among others.

Addressing the celebration, Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam warmly congratulated and showed his respect for generations of VOV leaders, staff, reporters, technicians, and artists, regarding them as soldiers in the front of ideology and culture and close and intimate friends of people, who delivered the voice of People and the Country.

VTV celebrates first television program

Viet Nam Television (VTV) - the National Television Broadcaster of Viet Nam – on Monday marked the 45th anniversary of its first television broadcasting program from the capital city of Ha Noi (September 7, 1970 – September 7, 2015).

PM NguyenTan Dung, Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam, and Minister of Public Security Tran Dai Quang attended the ceremony among distinguished guests.

Addressing the event, Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam hoped that VTV would soon become a strong, influential communication consortium, capable of competing internationally.

Gov’t releases September regular resolution

At its September regular resolution, the Government tasks ministries, agencies and localities to ensure macro-economic stability and fulfill socio-economic goals set for 2015.

The Government asked ministries, agencies, and localities to persist in the preset measures.

The State Bank of Viet Nam was assigned to use monetary instruments in a flexible manner to stabilize exchange rates and interest rates; boost credit growth, especially in prioritized fields; investigate and keep non-performing loans under 3%.

The Ministry of Planning and Investment is in charge of working with relevant ministries and agencies to mobilize capital in favor of socio-economic development; and timely propose solutions to extricating difficulties to speed up disbursement of ODA and the implementation of urgent and important projects.  

GDP growth may touch 6.4% in 2015

Viet Nam is likely to achieve a GDP growth rate of 6.4% in 2015 in spite of impacts from China’s yuan devaluation and low oil prices, according to the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MoPI).

Minister of Planning and Investment Bui Quang Vinh was quoted as saying that amidst complicated developments in the global and regional markets, the Government’s solutions and measures did work,  properly controlling the macro-economy and putting it back on track with positive outcomes.

VN named in 30 best places for solo travel

Viet Nam is considered one of the most female-friendly places to travel in Southeast Asia, according to the American Business Insider Magazine.

The Business Insider recently published a list of 30 best places for solo travel which allows tourists more self reflection and chances for enjoying the culture.

VN’s longest lantern road in Da Nang sets record

Thousands of lanterns are lighting up Asia Park in the central coastal city of Da Nang, setting a new record for a road in the area as the longest lantern road in Vietnam.

The 1.1-kilometre lantern road, embellished with more than 3,000 colourful lanterns across four areas, currently holds the title of Vietnam’s longest lantern road, as proffered by the Vietnam Record Association on August 29.

VN to become Silicon Valley of Southeast Asia

The information technology (IT) boom is expected to help VietNam become the Silicon Valley of Southeast Asia, according to an article posted on the website http://www.pcmag.com.

The article, entitled “Viet Nam’s Tech Boom: A Look Inside Southeast Asia’s Silicon Valley,” said Vietnam had barely any IT companies 15 years ago, but now there are close to 14,000 IT businesses spanning hardware, software and digital content.

VN to host 27th International Biology Olympiad

The 27th International Biology Olympiad (IBO) will take place for the first time in Viet Nam from July 17-24 next year with the participation of over 1,000 candidates from 70 countries and territories.

A campaign was held in Ha Noi on September 7 to encourage local teachers and students to engage in the event.

Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Vinh Hien said Vietnam has participated in the IBO since 1996.

Russian cultural festival in VN to be launched

The 2015 Russian Cultural Festival in Viet Nam will be held at the Hanoi-based Cultural and Friendship Palace from September 24-27, according to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST).

The festival is part of activities to celebrate the 65th anniversary of establishing diplomatic ties between Viet Nam and Russia.

First low-cost airline provides Hanoi-Hong Kong service

Low-cost airline Jetstar Pacific announced on September 7 the operation of a new air route linking Hanoi and Hong Kong (China) using the 180-seat Airbus A320 plane, which is expected to boost tourism between the two sides. 

The two-hour flight will take off at 16:15 from Hanoi and 19:55 from Hong Kong. 

According to Jetstar Pacific General Director Le Hong Ha, the number of customers booking tickets for the service has been rising since the tickets went on sale in April this year./.
