VN treasures IPCC’s support for climate change adaptation

As one of the most vulnerable countries to climate change, Viet Nam really appreciates assistance and support of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), said PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

PM Phuc made the statement while welcoming IPCC Chair Hoesung Lee in Ha Noi on October 24.

The Government chief expressed his wish to continue close collaboration with the IPCC in improving the Southeast Asian country’s capacity in this fight through experience sharing and facilitating Vietnamese agencies, universities and institutions to join the panel’s research groups.

VN attaches importance to ties with UN, PM says

 PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc affirmed the importance of the relationship between Viet Nam and the United Nations while receiving out-going Resident Coordinator Pratibha Mehta in Ha Noi on Monday.

The Government chief extended sincere thanks to the UN for its valuable assistance and support over the past nearly four decades and spoke highly of Ms. Pratibha Mehta’s contributions to the enhancement of the bilateral multi-faceted cooperation during her working tenure in Viet Nam.

PM Phuc took the occasion to express his pleasure at the recent appointment of Mr. Antonio Guterres as the next UN Secretary-General.

PM looks to expand “Miracle Village” of Japan in VN

PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc hoped to see the model of “Miracle Village” in Kawakami, Nagano Prefecture, which is a leading high-tech agricultural centre in Japan, being applied in Viet Nam.

The Government chief made the point on October 24 in Ha Noi while hosting Governor of Nagano Prefecture Shuichi Abe who was on a working visit to Viet Nam.

PM Phuc welcomed the initiative on the transfer of clean vegetable cultivation techniques in Nagano Prefecture via dispatching Japanese experts to Viet Nam and receiving Vietnamese young laborers for training in Japan.

President hosts outgoing Mongolian Ambassador

President Tran Dai Quang received outgoing Mongolian Ambassador to Viet Nam Dorj Enkhbat in Ha Noi on October 24.

He hailed the Ambassador’s efforts to enhance the two countries’ traditional friendship over the past 20 years.

Both nations have increased high-level delegation exchanges and reached important agreements on economics, trade, defense and security in recent years, he said.

PM agrees proposals to host ASEAN drug meetings

PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc has agreed with the Ministry of Public Security’s proposals to host two ASEAN drug meetings in the next two years.

Specifically, the 38th meeting of the ASEAN Senior Officials on Drug Matters (ASOD) and 6thASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Drugs will take place in 2017 and 2018, respectively.

Export revenue surges 7% in Jan-Sep

As of late September, trade turnover valued nearly US$ 253.44 billion, up 3.9% against the same period last year, according to the Viet Nam Customs.

In the January-September period, export volume reached nearly US$ 128.58 billion, posting a year-on-year surge of 7% or US$ 8.43 billion. Import turnover valued US$ 124.86 billion, up 0.9% against the same period last year or US$ 1.07 billion. Viet Nam ran a trade surplus of US$ 3.72 billion.  

Senior Officials’ Meetings for CLMV and ACMECS open in HN

The Senior Officials’ Meetings (SOM) for the 8th Summit of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Viet Nam (CLMV 8), the 7th Summit of Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS 7) were officially opened on October 24 in Ha Noi.

The two meetings aimed to prepare for the CLMV 8 and ACMECS 7 which will be under the chair by Vietnamese PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc on October 26.

The meetings were presided over by Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Head of Viet Nam SOM Vu Quang Minh and attracted representatives from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand.  

Vietnamese, Singaporean Defense Ministers hold talks

Minister of Defence, General Ngo Xuan Lich had talks with his Singaporean counterpart Ng Eng Hen, during which he affirmed that promoting friendship and cooperation with ASEAN countries, especially Singapore, is one of the priorities of Viet Nam’s external policies. 

At the talks, the two ministers agreed that defense cooperation between the two countries have been effective in line with the Agreement of Bilateral Defense Cooperation signed between the two ministries in 2009. 

VN makes a UNESCO push for Dan Bau-monochord zither

Vietnamese agencies, including the National Institute of Music, Folk Arts Association of Vietnam and Vietnam Musicians’ Association, are aiming to ally with the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Sports to propose to UNESCO to recognize dan bau, the nation’s monochord zither, as a world heritage. 

The campaign was announced by Chairman of the Folk Arts Association of Vietnam To Ngoc Thanh in a workshop on dan bau and its role in Viet Nam culture held by National Institute of Music on October 21. 

HN tourism information centre launched

Tourism information centre opened in Hanoi recently, promising to bring tourists more options to discover the capital city and beautiful places nearby.

The centre, managed by the Ha Noi Department of Tourism, aims to promote the city’s tourism and serve tourists better.

It provides information about destinations in Hanoi and other provinces, as well as tours to these destinations. Tourists can book tours with many travel companies through the centre./.
