Positive signs in socio-economic performance in 9 months

PM Nguyen Tan Dung said the socio-economic performance has been showing positive changes in 2014 and the Government has set higher targets for 2015 at an opening ceremony of the eighth session of the 13th National Assembly.

The economic growth rate expanded 5.62% over the past nine months of 2014 and was expected to reach around 5.8% for the whole year.

In terms of economics, the Government has set a GDP rise of 6.2%, a CPI increase of 5%, an export turnover rise of 10% and a total investment for social development accounting for 30% of GDP.

The proportion of poor households is estimated to decrease 1.7-2% and the unemployment rate in urban areas under 4%.

Exports up 14.4% in 9 months

Viet Nam’s exports in the first nine months of 2014 grew 14.4% year on year, the most remarkable achievement recorded by sectors and industries.

Phones topped with US$17.26 billion, followed by garment US$15.52 billion, computers and spare parts US$7.49 billion and footwear US$7.44 billion.

Among 63 provinces and cities, Ho Chi Minh City ranked first with the turnover of US423.28 billion, Bac Ninh Province cam second with US$16.07 billion, followed by Binh Duong Province US$12.31 billion, Dong Nai Province US$9.68 billion and Ha Noi US$8.1 billion.

VN exports 4.9 million tons of rice

Viet Nam has exported more than 139 tons of rice during the first two weeks of October, bringing the total rice export volume so far this year to 4.9 million tons, generating more than US$2.1 billion in value.

Viet Nam expects to produce 25.48 million tons of paddy for all of 2014, of which over 17 million tons of paddy, equivalent to 8.5 tons of rice, will be shipped abroad.

HN hosts conference on public administration, governance

The Eastern Regional Organization for Public Administration (EROPA) convened a plenary session as part of its annual conference.

Delegates at the conference, themed “Public Administration and Governance in the Context of Regional and Global Integration”, listened to Japanese government's experience in transparency and responsibilities in digital system, the private sector's participation in response to climate change in the Philippines and the public administration and public management in the context of globalization and integration as well as challenges and solutions for Viet Nam’s administration.

VN, Germany share industrial wastewater treatment experience

Vietnamese and German experts came together in a seminar to share their experience in industrial wastewater treatment techniques in a bid to protect the environment and natural resources.

Viet Nam aims to develop more industrial zones and clusters to promote industrialization and modernization.

Viet Nam has made plans for nearly 1,000 industrial zones and clusters, with more than 800 of them fully operational at present, thus contributing to national development and responding to environmental challenges.

VN joins 50th SIAL Paris

As many as 16 Vietnamese enterprises operating in the agricultural and food processing and export are taking part in the 50thSIAL Paris, the banner food event of France, from October 19-23 in Paris.

This is the fifth time Viet Nam has joined the event, which is held every two years. This year, it attracts the attendance of 6,300 businesses and is expected to welcome 150,000 visitors all over the world.

VN, Finland sign air transport agreement

Minister of Transport Dinh La Thang and Finnish Minister of Economic Affairs Jan Vapaavuori signed a bilateral agreement on air transport between the two countries.

The agreement comprises 26 articles and an appendix on a number of regulations, including transport rights, appointed airlines and aircraft, fees, equal competition rules and air security safety.
