PM attends ASEAN summits with partners
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung attended the ASEAN Summits with India, Japan, and the United Nations, as well as a summit to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the ASEAN–Australia partnership in Nay Pyi Taw, the capital of Myanmar.
In his speech, the PM touched upon the East Sea issue, urging the parties concerned to comply with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea, and promptly formulate the Code of Conduct in the East Sea .
The PM suggested both sides allocate more resources to the effective implementation of previous commitments, including the 2015-2019 Action Plan.
ASEAN was keen to receive more support from Australia to implement the Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity, he noted.
PM Dung meets with UN Secretary General
Viet Nam has been actively and responsibly taking part in many important agencies of the United Nations (UN), as well as making significant contributions to building UN strategies and programmes of action, said Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.
Dung made the statement during his meeting with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on the sidelines of the 25th ASEAN Summit in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar.
The Viet Nam government leader appreciated remarkable contributions of the UN and Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to dealing with global issues and promoting peace, security and development in the world.
For his part, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon praised Viet Nam’s achievements in fulfilling the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), which made the country one of the economies with the fastest growth in the region.
He thanked Viet Nam for supporting the “One UN” initiative and valued its participation in the UN’s peace-keeping forces.
VN, Laos, Cambodia share auditing experience
Leaders of the state audit agencies from VietNam, Laos and Cambodia gathered at their sixth in Vientiane, Laos to share experience in the application of the International Standards of Supreme Audit Institutions (ISSAI).
The Vietnamese delegation shared eight lessons on the ISSAI application, stressing that enhancing the state audit capacity in applying ISSAI is a strategic breakthrough that reflects the SAV’s determination to improve its operations.
Viet Nam’s lessons were appreciated by Laos and Cambodia as well as other sponsors, especially in the context of integration towards an ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) by 2015.
The next meeting will be held in Viet Nam in 2015.
VN, Japan Association Friendship launched in Vinh Long
The Viet Nam-Japan Friendship Association’s chapter in southern Vinh Long province convened its first congress to set forth its tasks for the 2014-2019 tenure.
The congress elected an executive board including six members.
The chapter’s activities will focus on consolidating and developing the friendship and cooperation between Vinh Long and Japan, especially in the fields of economy, health, education, culture, tourism and science-technology.
Addressing the event, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Tran Van Ron said that the establishment of the chapter marks a new development in people-to-people exchange between Japan and Vietnam in general and Vinh Long in particular.
JICA helps Dong Nai develop water-supply system
The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has pledged a credit worth $140 million for the second building phase of the Nhon Trach water plant in the southern province of Dong Nai.
According to Dinh Quoc Thai, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, the site clearance for the second phase was fulfilled and the local authorities are working hard to soon complete the project-related documents to submit to JICA and the Japanese Government.
The project is expected to start construction in 2017 and complete in 2021.
The first phase on the Nhon Trach water plant, which began construction in 2008, became operational in late March.
Japan provides non-refundable aid for VN
The Japanese Government will provide non-refundable aid worth $500,975 for five projects in Viet Nam.
Contracts on the aid were signed in Ha Noi.
The five projects aim to develop two schools in Thai Nguyen and Hung Yen provinces, two medical centres in Hung Yen and Hai Duong provinces and one hospital in Hai Duong province./.
