State President to attend inauguration of Lao airport
 
State President Truong Tan Sang will attend the inauguration ceremony of Attapeu International Airport in the Lao province of Attapeu on May 30.
 
His appearance comes at the invitation of General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and State President Choummaly Sayasone, according to the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  
Leaders congratulate Myanmar counterparts on ties celebration
 
State President Truong Tan Sang and Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung sent congratulatory messages to the Myanmar President Thein Sein, marking the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Viet Nam and Myanmar.
 
That same day, Deputy PM and FM Pham Binh Minh conveyed his congratulations to his Myanmar counterpart, U Wunna Maung Lwin.
 
Dinh Vu-Cat Hai EZ Planning adjusted
 
The PM has agreed in principle adjustments to the master plan on building the Dinh Vu-Cat Hai Economic Zone (EZ) in the coastal city of Hai Phong to 2020.
 
The EZ construction is in line with the planning on development of Hai Phong city, the northern key EZ, the Kunming-Lao Cai-Ha Noi-Hai Phong and Nanning-Lang Son-Ha Noi-Hai Phong economic corridors to create a close linkage with the Van Don-Quang Ninh EZ.
 
According to the Hai Phong municipal People’s Committee, the adjustments aim to promote strengths of Lach Huyen Port and tourism potential of Cai Trap island.
 
VNRoK strengthen defence relations
 
Defence Minister Phung Quang Thanh and his Korean counterpart Han Min-koo held talks in Ha Noi, discussing measures to further tighten defence relations between the two countries.
 
Minister Phung Quang Thanh said Viet Nam and the RoK are strategic cooperation partners, and the RoK is one of Viet Nam’s leading economic and trade partners.
 
Meanwhile, Minister Han said he hoped that the visit would help develop defence cooperation comprehensively on par with the strategic cooperation partnership.
 
First Vietnamese trade office opens in China
 
Viet Nam’s first trade promotion office in China was inaugurated in Chong Qing city.
 
Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Cam Tu said the office is tasked with promoting images of Viet Nam and its products throughout China’s southwestern region whilst offering advice to Chinese companies keen on investing in Viet Nam.
 
Industrial production hits three year high
 
Industrial production index grew 9.2% over the same period last year, which was a three year high level, reported the General Statistics Office.
 
The growth rate was 4.9% and 5.7% for the same period in 2013 and 2014.
 
This year, motor vehicle manufacturing grew 32%, textile 22.8%, leather items 21.3%, and electronic, computer and optical products 19.6%.
 
According to the report, the consumption level of manufacturing and processing industry in April saw a year on year increase of 9.3%, taking the total growth rate to 12.8% in the first four months this year.
