Ninth session of 13th NA opens

The ninth session of the 13th National Assembly (NA) officially opened on May 20 in Ha Noi. It will last till June 26.

After NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung made a opening speech, Deputy PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc presented a report on the implementation of the socio-economic development plan and State budget in 2014 and in the first months of 2015.

President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Nguyen Thien Nhan presented voters’ comments and petitions.

PM encourages US investment in agriculture

PM Nguyen Tan Dung expressed support for cooperative programs in the field of agriculture conducted by the US’ Dupont Corporation, during his reception for the company’s Chair of the Board of Directors and CEO Ellen Kullman.

The PM spoke highly of Dupont’s help to launch large-scale model paddy fields in the central province of Thanh Hoa and train agricultural experts in Can Tho University.

Kullman said Dupont is ready to transfer the latest technologies to Viet Nam, including waste-to-biofuel technology, and will continue working with Vietnamese partners in farming and food technology.

VN, China sign MoU to boost cooperation in agriculture

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) and China’s Ministry of Agriculture signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to further expand cooperation in agriculture.

Activities covered by the MoU include research, technology, trade, seedling production, control and prevention of diseases on plants and animals; production of agricultural machinery; farm produce processing; exchange of experts and information.

VN attends EWEC in Thailand

The Third Deputy Foreign Ministers' Meeting on East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC), which drew the participation of Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Viet Nam, was held in Bangkok, Thailand.

Delegates at the meeting reviewed the implementation of decisions from previous meetings and discussed ways to address difficulties and obstacles to promote the effectiveness of the EWEC.

A Joint Declaration was approved, specializing in upgrading infrastructure and completing legal framework for trans-border transport.

Nearly US$20 bln invested overseas

As of April 2015, Viet Nam registered a total capital of US$15 billion in 962 projects overseas.

The other 115 projects were invested with an additional capital of US$5 billion, raising the total newly-registered and additional capital to US$20 billion. Of the figure, 12.5% were invested by individuals and 76% were invested by private companies.

The nation’s overseas investment mainly focused on traditional markets such as Laos with the investment of US$3.9 billion in 259 projects and Cambodia with US$3.2 billion in 171 ones.

Dong Nai inks cooperative agreement with Japanese region

Southern Dong Nai province and the Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan’s Kansai region signed an economic cooperation framework agreement, with a focus on links in the support industry.

Under the document, the two sides agreed to create favorable conditions for Kansai enterprises operating in support industry to invest in Dong Nai, while working together in training human resources for the sector.

Vietjet Air offers 3 million tickets at discount prices

Low-cost airline Vietjet Air launched its biggest-ever promotional campaign, offering 3 million tickets at a discounted price for flights until the end of 2016.

In the first month of the program, from May 20 to June 20, as many as 50,000 tickets, with prices beginning at 0 VND, will go on sale for domestic and international flights to Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan and the Republic of Korea for flights during September 3 and December 15.
