President Sang holds talks with Lao senior leaders

President Truong Tan Sang held talks with LaoPM Thongsin Thammavong and National Assembly (NA) Chairman Pany Yathotou as part of his ongoing visit to Laos.

President Sang affirmed the Vietnamese Party, State and people have always treasured the relationship between the two countries.

Both sides discussed measures to carry out signed agreements and the agreement of the 37th session of the Viet Nam-Laos Inter-Governmental committee.

They consented to facilitate trade and investment aiming to raise bilateral trade to US$2 billion this year.

PM Dung meets VN Red Cross Society

PM Nguyen Tan Dung met with representatives from the Viet Nam Red Cross Society (VRCS) at the Government Headquarters.

Addressing the meeting, the PM recognized the VRCS’s contributions to the nation’s development through practical activities over the past 69 years.

Scheme on national energy development to be devised

Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai agreed to develop a planning scheme on national energy development in the 2016-2025 period with orientations towards 2035.

The national energy development scheme is significant to devising national policies and programs related to energy and sustainable development when the integration and the development of the energy sector in a market economy are underway.

Kazakh lower chamber speaker to visit VN

Speaker of the Kazakh Parliament’s Lower House Kabibulla Dzhakupov will visit Viet Nam and attend the 132nd Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly (IPU-132), announced the NA’s Committee for External Affairs.

The March 27-31 visit is made at the invitation of  National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung.

The visit aims to strengthen the Viet Nam – Kazakhstan friendship and cooperation, particularly affiliation between the two legislative bodies.

Public Security Minister visits Cuba

A high-level delegation from the Viet Nam Ministry of Public Security led by Minister General Tran Dai Quang is making an official visit to Cuba from March 21-25 at the invitation of Cuban Interior Minister Lieutenant General Abelardo Colome Ibrarra.

On the occasion, Quang invited Ibrarra to visit to Viet Nam and attend the 70th founding anniversary of the Viet Nam People's Police.

Bamboo house receives int’l awards

A bamboo house designed by Viet Nam's H&P Architects has surpassed 1,500 outstanding projects to be named on a shortlist for the WAN Small Spaces Award in the world’s largest architectural awards.

The Blooming Bamboo Home is a housing solution for millions of Vietnamese people suffering from natural disasters such as storms, floods, landslides and drought.

According to H&P Architects, the users can build the house by themselves in 25 days using local materials and can be mass produced.

More foreign owned banks to open in VN

The State Bank of Viet Nam (SBV) has allowed Malaysia’s Public Bank Berhad (PBB) to acquire all stakes owned by Vietnamese lender, the Bank for Investment and Development of Viet Nam (BIDV), in their joint venture VID Public Bank.

In the recent document No. 1721/NHNN-TTGSNH, the SBV Governor agreed that after the acquisition, PBB will turn the VID Public - the biggest joint venture bank in Viet Nam - into a 100% foreign owned bank in the country. 

VID Public and PBB have been requested to meet all conditions and requirements to make the adjustment.
