PM meets with Lao Cai leaders

PM Nguyen Tan Dung urged the Northern province of Lao Cai to mobilize all resources for infrastructure development to give a boost to the locality’s economy.

PM Dung said Lao Cai needs to focus on improving its business environment to further lure investment; realizing the national target program on building new-style rural areas; and developing processing industry.

PM Dung also tasked the province to ensure national defense and security, maintain political security, social order and safety and push for borderline of peace and cooperation.

VN well on course for IPU 132 meeting

The organizing board has developed plans for personnel, protocol, communications, logistics, security and health care to welcome approximately 1,300 delegates from 160 countries and territories to attend the for the 132nd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly.

At the meeting, NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung asked sub-committees to carefully draw up the working agenda for the gathering, especially the Ha Noi communiqué, while promoting Viet Nam as a peace-loving nation in the eye of foreign delegates.

DPM Minh attends Mekong-RoK Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh stressed on the importance of strengthening infrastructure, logistics, human resource connectivity for the development of the Greater Sub-Mekong region at the 4th Mekong-Republic of Korea (RoK) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.

Economic development must be integrated into environmental protection and sustainable management and use of natural resources in general and Mekong river water, he said.

The same day, Deputy PM Minh held talks with RoK’s Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se.

VN, Lao border provinces enhance judicial cooperation

The second judicial conference between border provinces of Viet Nam and Laos was held in Vientiane, in the presence of Vietnamese Justice Minister Ha Hung Cuong and his Lao counterpart Chaluern Ziapaoher.

Both sides agreed that in the time to come, they will work closely with relevant agencies to effectively implement an agreement on solving issues related to illegal migration and illegitimate marriage signed between the two governments on July 8, 2013.

Trade surplus recorded in first seven months

Viet Nam enjoyed a trade surplus of US$1.26 billion in the first seven months of the year, equal to 1.5% of the country’s total export turnover.

Of the figure, the foreign direct investment sector contributed US$9.78 billion, statistics shows.

The total export turnover attained US$83.5 billion, witnessing a year-on-year increase of 14.1%. The figure includes US$55.8 billion foreign-invested sector.

Dong Nai: Footwear export fetches over US$1.1 billion

The southern province of Dong Nai earned more than US$1.1 billion from footwear export in the first seven months of this year, up 12.8% year-on-year.

He said that growth was seen in almost all markets, led by the Republic of Korea with US$323 million and the US with US$309 million. They were followed by Belgium, US$98 million, China , US$50 million and the UK , US$75 million, he said.

More investors to Phu Quoc island

The Southern province of Kien Giang is now considering granting of investment certificates to 22 projects worth VND33,409 billion into Phu Quoc island.

The island is now home to 194 projects covering an area of 8,530 ha.
