Deputy Prime Minister welcomes Lao Justice Minister
 
Deputy PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc held a reception for a delegation from the Lao Justice Ministry led by Minister Bounkeut Sangsomsak. 

He highlighted that Viet Nam always supports and creates favourable conditions for the coordination between the two justice ministries. 
 
Minister Bounkeut Sangsomsak expressed his hope for more bilateral delegation exchange as well as more support from Viet Nam towards his ministry, especially in human resources training.

DPM Minh to visit Philippines

Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh will pay a working visit to the Philippines from January 29-31 at the invitation of Philippine FM Albert Del Rosario.

During the visit, he will co-chair the first meeting of the Joint Working Committee on Viet Nam-Philippines Strategic Partnership.

No Vietnamese casualties in eastern Ukraine: FM’s spokesman
 
There has been no report of Vietnamese casualties in the recent fighting in eastern Ukraine, Foreign Minister’s spokesman Le Hai Binh said in response to reporters’ queries.

He said the Foreign Ministry has instructed the Vietnamese Embassy in Ukraine to closely monitor the situation and take measures to ensure security and safety of the Vietnamese community in the country, adding that the embassy has acted to quickly evacuate Vietnamese citizens from dangerous areas.

In coordination with local Vietnamese associations, the embassy urged the Vietnamese community to stand in unity and offer mutual support, as well as take measures to ensure safety of their lives and assets, he said.
 
Deputy Defence Minister welcomes former US Ambassador
 
The Deputy Minister of Defence, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh, welcomed Michael Michalak, the former US Ambassador to Viet Nam, at the Ministry of Defence’s headquarters.

The two sides also expressed wish to work together to implement cooperation contents from the Memorandum on Bilateral Defence Cooperation, which was signed in 2011.

They also touched on other cooperation activities such as addressing post-war outcomes.

Michael Michalak was the US Ambassador to Viet Nam between August 2007 and February 2011.
 
VN-DPRK diplomatic ties marked

A ceremony was held to mark the 65th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Viet Nam and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) (January 31, 1950 – January 31, 2015).

President of the Viet Nam-DPRK Friendship Association Pham Tat Dong and DPRK Ambassador Kim Chang Il both expressed satisfaction at new developments in the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
 
VN, Laos strengthen judicial cooperation
 
The justice ministers of Viet Nam and Lao met in Ha Noi to discuss judicial issues of common interest and sign an agreement on cooperation between the two ministries for the period from 2015 to 2020.
 
During the 2015-2020 period, the two sides plan to enhance their exchange of expertise, work together to improve the quality of their human resources, and encourage the application of advanced technology in the field. They will also continue coordinating closely at multilateral forums.
 
Mekong Delta Green Tourism Week 2015

The Mekong Delta Green Tourism Week in 2015 is expected to spur developments in the regional tourism, contributing to the region’s socio-economic growth.

The event will draw the participation of provinces and cities with tourism strength nationwide and other large cities in the Greater Mekong Sub-region countries of Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, Laos and a number of foreign organizations and businesses.
 
The program, organized from June 18-24, includes six main events of meetings, conferences, fairs, investment promotion in green tourism, solutions for tourism connections and development between localities in the region.
