Party Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong receives Lao guest

Party Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong hosted a reception for visiting Secretary of the Central Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Chansy Phosikham.

The Vietnamese Party leader highlighted recent effective cooperation between the two Commissions, expressing hopes that they will continue to work closely, sharing experience in party building and personnel and training work, as well as enhancing mutual support for implementing the Party Congress resolutions of each country.

Chansy Phosikham expressed his appreciation for the Vietnamese State and its people for their significant support to Laos in the past and currently.

PM receives newly-appointed Ambassadors

PM Nguyen Tan Dung welcomed Bangladeshi Ambassador to Viet Nam Shahab Ullah and Panamanian Ambassador Servio Sammodio.

At his meeting with the Bangladeshi Ambassador, the PM stated that Viet Nam will make every effort to further deepen its relations with Bangladesh, especially in economics, trade, investment tourism and people-to-people exchange.

For his part, Shahab Ullah said he admires Viet Nam’s economic growth as well as achievements in poverty reduction, gender equality and mother and children caring, as well as the country’s efforts to deal with climate change.

Welcoming the Panamanian Ambassador, PM Dung said the two countries should enhance cooperation on economics, trade, investment, science and technology on the foundation of their close political ties.

The Panamanian Ambassador assured his host that Panama is interested in extending its partnership with Viet Nam further, with a focus on economics, investment, trade, and tourism.

NA Standing Committee discusses IPU-132 organization

The National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee on January 21 gave comments on the preparations for the132nd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU-132), which will be held from March 28-April 1, 2015.

The Ha Noi Declaration, expected to be ratified at the IPU, will be used as an official document to table to the Summit of top officials of legislative agencies in August 2015 and the United Nations in September 2015.

VN-Laos inter-governmental committee convenes meeting

Viet Nam and Laos agreed to offer support to investors in legal and administrative formalities during the 37th meeting of the Viet Nam – Laos Inter-governmental Committee in Ha Noi.

The event was co-chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Viet Nam – Laos Cooperation Sub-Committee Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his Lao counterpart Somsavad Lengsavath, who is Chairman of the Laos – Viet Nam Cooperation Sub-Committee.

They will also accelerate the implementation of the Viet Nam – Laos cooperation strategy from 2011 to 2020, an agreement on Viet Nam-Laos cooperation in the Lao provinces of Houaphan and Xieng Khouang until 2020 and the 2011-2015 cooperation agreement.

DPM kicks off Northern Mountains Urban Programs

Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai attended a groundbreaking ceremony for the first phase of the Northern Mountains Urban Program Project in Thai Nguyen Province.

The Deputy PM stressed the meaning of the project in Thai Nguyen Province in particular and in the Northern mountainous areas in general.

Speaking at the event, WB Country Director Victoria Kwakwa said that the implementation and experience drawn from the project will form a technical investment support model in combination with improving urban management capacity that could be applied for other cities and provinces in Viet Nam.

VN-investment destination for Indian businesses

Viet Nam remains as one of Asian appealing trade and investment destinations for international businesses, including those from India, said Indian Deputy Minister of Commerce and Industry Rajeev Kher at the Viet Nam-India Business Forum in Ho Chi Minh City.

Rajeev Kher proposed several promising fields of cooperation between the pair in the coming time, including textile and garment, pharmaceuticals, chemical, information technology and hi-tech products.

Viet Nam-India trade hit US$5.4 billion in 2014, with Viet Nam’s exports valued at US$2.4 billion.

VN hosts aquatic animal health conference

The 3rd Global Conference on Aquatic Animal Health has attracted the participation of more than 200 delegates from 87 member countries of the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE).

The event creates a chance for managers, scientists, businesses and students in aquaculture and animal health in Asia and in the world to share effective experience and researches in preventing aquaculture diseases.

VN-Singapore trade turnover up 20%

Viet Nam-Singapore trade turnover reached SGD20.4 billion (US$15.6 billion) in 2014, up 20.3% compared to the previous year.

Viet Nam earned SGD4.05 billion (US$3.1 billion) from exporting to Singapore, up 22.4%.

Viet Nam’s import turnover from Singapore saw an increase of 20.1%, obtaining SGD16.34 billion (US$12.75 billion).

HN’s CPI slightly decreases in January

Ha Noi’s Consumer Price Index in January dropped 0.17% compared to December 2014 and up 0.67% against the same month in 2014.

The decrease is attributed to a reduction in petroleum price, which led to a fall of 3.78% in transport service price.

In January, seven among 11 items saw a rise in prices.
