Zero Hunger Challenge launched

PM Nguyen Tan Dung attended a ceremony and a workshop to launch a National Action Plan for the Zero Hunger Challenge in Viet Nam. 

The Vietnamese Government highly valued the United Nations’ Zero Hunger Challenge initiative with five main objectives.

Viet Nam is launching two programs on new rural establishment and agricultural restructuring, revealed the PM, adding that the nation is realizing a number of synchronous measures to enhance the application of science and technology, re-organizing production, attracting more investment for agriculture and mitigating consequences caused by natural calamity and climate change.

VN, Thailand promotes Strategic Partnership

Welcoming Thai Deputy PM, Minister of Defense Prawit Wongsuwon, PM Nguyen Tan Dung lauded the development in Viet Nam-Thailand Strategic Partnership, including the signing of an Action Plan implementing Viet Nam-Thailand Strategic Partnership.

Viet Nam respects the role of Thailand in the region and in the world, hoping to accelerate the Strategic Partnership with Thailand for the two countries' mutual development and ASEAN's prosperity, asserted the PM.

Mr. Prawit Wongsuwon revealed that Thailand desires to enhance cooperation in fields of economics, trade and investment with Viet Nam, especially in agriculture and transport connection.

Saudi Arabian investors supported to invest in VN

PM Nguyen Tan Dung stressed that the Vietnamese Government supports long-term investments in Viet Nam by businesses from Saudi Arabia during reception for newly appointed Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Viet Nam Dakhil Al Johani.

Both countries should improve mutual understanding, trust and support at international forums, particularly the United Nations, as well as boost trade ties, striving for a US$2 billion two-way trade turnover by the end of 2015, PM Dung suggested.

The two sides should foster cooperation in labor, oil and gas, especially conclude Agreements on Encouragement and Protection of Investments and Aviation as soon as possible, the Government leader added.

Ba Ria-Vung Tau has new Vice Chairman

PM Nguyen Tan Dung approved the election of Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tinh as Vice Chairman of Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province’s People’s Committee in the phase from 2011-2016.

Mekong Delta city expands cooperation with Singapore

The Mekong Delta city of Can Tho and Singapore want to expand cooperation in agro-fishery processing, electrical home appliances, medicine, and fast food industries.

At a reception for Singaporean Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Leow Siu Lin, Can Tho authorities informed the guest of the local socio-economic development as well as the activities of Singaporean businesses in the city, particularly in the Tra Noc industrial park. 

In 2014, Can Tho earned over US$51.8 million from selling rice, seafood and garment-textile to Singapore, while importing oil and gas, chemical, pharmaceutical products and fertilizer worth over US$67.7 million.

VND63 billion allocated to preserve mangrove forest ecology

A VND63 billion (US$3 million) project has been launched in the southern province of Tra Vinh to preserve the Long Khanh mangrove forest ecosystem between 2014 and 2018.

The majority of the funds, VND54 billion (US$2.6 billion), will be dedicated to planting 73 hectares of forest, reproducing monkeys, crocodiles, iguanas and other wild animals, building stations and grids, and purchasing machines and equipment to protect the forest.

VN ranks 76th in ratio of women in management

Viet Nam ranked 76th out of 108 countries and territories with its proportion of women managers at 23 percent, a slight improvement in recent years, according to a new study by the International Labor Organization (ILO).

According to Viet Nam’s Labor Force Surveys, the share of Vietnamese women in the “leaders, managers and administrators” category increased by 0.6% in 2011 and 0.5% in 2012, bringing the total to 24.4% in 2013.
