VN extends sincere thanks to int’l community

PM Nguyen Tan Dung has extended sincere thanks to foreign Governments and people, partners and friends for their valuable support and effective cooperation at a banquet held on Thursday on the occasion of the 69th anniversary of National Day of Viet Nam.

The Government chief highlighted the significant role of foreign ambassadors, charge d’affaires and representatives of international organizations in promoting their countries/organizations’ relations with Viet Nam.

In such spirit, Viet Nam always spares no effort to make active and responsible contributions to regional and international security and development issues, said PM Dung.

PM chairs Gov’t regular meeting

PM Nguyen Tan Dung has asked relevant ministers, agencies and localities to strive to achieve set targets so as to create a firm basis for higher growth rates in 2015 and the following years.

The PM asked his cabinet members to seek to tackle difficulties for production, accelerate growth rates in agriculture, industry and services, and realize an economic growth rate of 5.8% for the full year.

PM Dung asked Government members to come up with measures to achieve a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of around 6-6.2%.

Spokesman clarifies VN’s international position

In response to questions on Viet Nam’s position on the Palestine – Israel ceasefire agreement on August 26, Binh said that Viet Nam welcomes the move and calls on all concerned parties to respect the truce, increase negotiations on a comprehensive and sustainable peace deal, and ensure peace and stability in the region.

Regarding Viet Nam’s stance on the escalating violence triggered by the Islamic state group in Iraq, Binh said Vietnam is deeply concerned by the situation and condemns inhuman actions and atrocities committed against innocent civilians.

During the press briefing, he also informed the media that 12 Vietnamese fishermen will be returning from the Philippines on August 30.

PM bids farewell to outgoing Brazilian Ambassador

PM Nguyen Tan Dung on Thursday highly valued the contributions of Brazilian Ambassador Vitoria Alice Cleaver to the development of the Viet Nam-Brazil relations during her office term.

The Government chief affirmed that Viet Nam always attaches importance to Brazil’s role in the region and the world, hoping to work with Brazil to further step up the bilateral ties in various fields.

The Brazilian diplomat said she has witnessed strong development in the bilateral relations, particularly economic, trade and investment linkages, over the past three years.

Expanded ASEAN Maritime Forum concludes

More than 100 delegates from ten ASEAN member countries and Australia, China, India, Japan, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Russia, and the US attended the 3rd Expanded ASEAN Maritime Forum (EAMF).

During the one-day gathering, the participants, including scholars, updated the current maritime cooperation situation; discussed measures to cope with disasters and incidents and ensure security, safety and freedom of navigation.

Re-operated businesses up 35.2%

As many as 1,496 businesses re-operated in August, up 35.2% compared to the previous month.

In August only, 5,052 new enterprises were established with a registered capital of VND27,300 billion, creating 79,400 jobs.

Around 708,500 jobs have been created in eight months, a year-on-year increase of 1%.

Exports of wood, wooden products rise

Viet Nam earned US$5.7 billion from exporting wood and wooden exports over the past seven months of 2014.

The exports of wood and wooden products achieved US$2.3 billion and US$3.3 billion, up 18.4% and 14.4%, respectively.

In July alone, wood and wooden products brought home US$494.4 million and US$360.6 million. 

VN-Brazil trade hits over US$1.7 billion

Two-way trade between Viet Nam and Brazil fetched US$1.745 billion in the first seven months of the year.

Of the total, Vietnamese exports generated US$770.3 million, up 29.5% compared to the same period last year, and its imports notched up US$974.7 million, a rise of 41.4%.
