VN, Laos promote comprehensive cooperation

Lao Party General Secretary and State President Choummaly Sayasone has confirmed that Viet Nam-Laos relationship is the invaluable asset of the two nations that needs to be preserved and protected.

During his visit to Viet Nam from August 18-21, the Lao Party Chief met with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and State President Truong Tan Sang, and visited Lam Dong Province and Ho Chi Minh City.

The two sides shared evaluations of the situations in the world and in the region and exchanged measures to strengthen the relationship.

VN strongly condemns inhumane acts against fishing boats

Spokesman of the Foreign Ministry Le Hai Binh said that Viet Nam strongly condemns inhumane acts against Vietnamese fishing boats operating in its waters while answering reporters’ query on Viet Nam’s response to the news saying that a fishing boat of fishermen in Ly Son Island was reportedly smashed and robbed by a Chinese vessel while they were fishing in their traditional fishing ground off the Hoang Sa (Paracel) Islands.

He said Vietnamese competent agencies are working to verify the news.

VN attaches importance to ties with Sri Lanka

Viet Nam always attaches importance to the traditional friendship and multi-faced cooperation with Sri Lanka.

Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh made the statement during his reception for Sri Lankan Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiudeen.

He also highly valued the outcomes of the talks held earlier on the same day between the two countries’ trade ministers. Both sides agreed to lift up the two-way trade value to US$1 billion in the time to come.

Viet Nam expects that Sri Lanka would create favorable conditions for Vietnamese investors to do business, particularly in such fields of petroleum and aquaculture.

Viet Nam expects new wave of investment from Japan

Fourteen Japanese banks are seeking investment opportunities in the automobile manufacturing, environment, and water treatment in Viet Nam.

Viet Nam earned US$8.5 billion from exporting to Japan over the past seven months of the year.  Aquatic products, coffee, woodworks and garment witnessed an export turnover of more than US$100 million each.

In the future, Japanese businesses will try to increase investment in Viet Nam to US$10 billion.

CPI of HN, HCM City slightly increases

The consumer price index (CPI) in August in Ho Chi Minh City rose 0.05% over July.

Since August of last year the City’s CPI has increased by 4.93%.

Ha Noi's Consumer Price Index (CPI) in the month increased 3.32% and 1.53% compared with the same period and December last year, respectively.

The CPI in August rose 0.19% in comparison with the previous month.

VNA to launch direct routes from Phu Quoc to Singapore, Cambodia

The national flag carrier Viet Nam Airlines (VNA) has officially announced that it will launch two new direct routes to Singapore and Cambodia between November 1-30.

The VNA is launching special prices for return tickets on Phu Quoc-Siem Reap route with US$63 and on Phu Quoc-Singapore service with US$18. The program will be applied from August 20 to September 30.

NGOs pledge over US$6.1 million for Quang Tri

The Mine Advisory Group (MAG), World Vision, Plan, Zhi-Shan Foundation, and Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA) pledged more than US$6.1 million in aid in support of the central province of Quang Tri for the 2014-2017 period.

Dong Nai among five leading exporters in VN

The southern province of Dong Nai is among the country’s top five leading localities in export with its Jan-August turnover estimated at over US$8.1 billion, a year-on-year increase of 14.5%.
In August alone, the locality raked in nearly US$1.2 billion from exports, the highest level since the beginning of this year.
