President of French Senate hails VN’s role in coordinating regional political activities

VGP – Viet Nam is playing a crucial role in coordinating political activities in the region, said President of the French Senate Gérand Larcher on April 2 in Paris, France at his reception for Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.

At the meeting, Mr. Gérand Larcher stressed the meaning of the first visit to France made by a Vietnamese NA Chairperson after 11 years.  

Mr. Gérand Larcher referred to Viet Nam’s crucial role in the changing world situations, especially the nation’s host of the second US-DPRK Summit. 

For her side, Ms. Ngan said that the NA delegation has launched a number of activities at Toulouse, including activities between the two nations’ businesses, the working session with the Friendship Parliamentary Group and 15 big French enterprises. 

Currently, around 200 French enterprises are launching operation in Viet Nam and France is the fourth largest trade partner of Viet Nam in the Europe, said the Vietnamese legislator, expressing her hope that France will occupy higher position among nations and territories investing in Viet Nam.  

With the status and role of France in Europe, she expected that France and the French Senate will advocate to strengthening cooperation with Viet Nam and the EU, including soon signing and approving the EU-Viet Nam Free Trade Agreement. 

The President of the French Senate thanked Ms. Ngan for her invitation to pay an official visit to Viet Nam, supposing that it will create an opportunity to consolidate the two nations’ parliamentary ties. 

Regarding the EVFTA, he affirmed the French Senate’s support for Viet Nam, adding that the completion and approval of the EVFTA not only brings benefits for nations in the EU but also countries outside the union.   

NA Chairwoman Ngan welcomes and highly appraises France’s standpoint on maintaining freedom and order of navigation based on the international regulations, suggesting France raise its strong voice in the East Sea issue at the multi-lateral forums and the bilateral exchanges with its partners in the Asia-Pacific region. 

Consenting with the issues proposed by Ms. Ngan. Mr. Gérand Larcher stressed that freedom of traveling at sea is meaningful and France is concerned about the issues. 

Peace is the option to address disputes and tensions and the spirit that all the nations are heading, he added.
