VGP - Việt Nam exported 15,191 tons of prawns and shrimps to the US and earned over US $147.3 million in the first half of this year, up 18.3% and 2.1% respectively against the same period last year, said the Việt Nam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

Việt Nam exports 72,288 tons of prawns and shrimps in the first six months of 2009, up 1.8%

The double-digit export growth rate has been maintained since April after drops in the three months earlier due to impacts of the global economic downturn.

In June, Việt Nam exported 3,728 tons of prawns and shrimps valued at more than US $24.4 million to the EU, up 65% and 48.6%, respectively.

Besides, the country’s prawn export to China has posted very high growth rates since the beginning of this year.

All the impressive results  helped raise Việt Nam’s total prawn and shrimp export volume to 72,288 tons in the first six months, up 1.8% against the same period last year.

In 2008, Việt Nam was the fourth largest exporter of prawns and shrimps to the US, with 47,900 tons, ranking after Thailand (182,400 tons), Indonesia (84,000 tons) and Ecuador (56,300 tons).
