Comparing to regular types of gas in Việt Nam, Gasohol E5 is a preeminent product with lower cost, less fuel consumption (2-3%), and less emission (60-70%).

As reported, PetroVietnam assigned the Petrochemical and Bio Fuel Joint Co (PVB), a subsidiary of PV Oil, to introduce ethanol biogas E5 to the capital’s customers first. PV Oil has scheduled to expand its ethanol business in Hồ Chí Minh City, Hải Phòng, Cần Thơ, then nationwide.

The General Director of PVB announced that his company is investing US $80 million to construct an ethanol-manufacturing factory in Tam Nông District (Phú Thọ Province) with an annual capacity of 100,000 cubic meters of pure ethanol.

Another factory with similar capacity is being under construction in central Bình Định Province, which will come into operation one year after the mill in Phú Thọ Province. Each factory can consume around 200,000 tons of dry cassava per year.

Apart from diminishing transport pollution, the development and use of ethanol biogas set a new direction of supporting peasants because the fuel is chiefly made from dry cassava, sugarcane and corn.

PV Oil’s ethanol use is a step to realize “The Project on Bio-fuel Development by 2015 and Vision to 2025” signed by Deputy PM Hoàng Trung Hải. Accordingly, Việt Nam tries to produce 250,000 tons of ethanol and vegetable oil by 2015, and obtain advanced bio-energy technologies by 2025.
