Phu Quoc island to be reopened to foreigners with vaccine passport next month

VGP – Foreigners with vaccine passport can visit Phu Quoc island in the southern province of Kien Giang from November 20, according to a pilot program issued by the local People’s Committee.

Specificcally, the island will welcome foreign tourists on charter flights from November 20, 2021  to March 20, 2022 to seven designated hotels namely Vinpearl Discovery Costalland, Vinpearl Discovery Greenhill, Vinpearl Resort Spa, Vinholidays Fiesta, Premier Residences Emerald Bay, Movenpick Resort Waverly, Movenpick Villa and Residences.

In the next stage from March 20, 2022 to June 20, 2022, eight more hotels will be opened to foreign tourists:  Best Western Premier Sonasea, Novotel Resort, Intercontinental, Sol By Melia, Crowne Plaza Starbay, Shell Resort & Spa, Pullman Resort, Mercury Resort & Villa.

Foreigners shall be required to have full vaccination certificates, with the second dose taken at least 14 days and no more than 12 months before arriving to Phu Quoc or proof of recovery from COVID-19 recognized by Vietnamese competent authorities and negative COVID-19 test certificates issued within 72 hours before departure.

In a bid to revive tourism after the Government shifted away from “Zero COVID-19” policy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has discussed with nearly 80 partners about mutual recognition of vaccination certificates or vaccine passports, said Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang told reporters at a press conference on Thursday.

To date, Viet Nam has temporarily recognized COVID-19 vaccination certificates or vaccine passports from 72 countries and territories, she added./.
