Philipinnes, VN value ties

VGP - Defence Minister Gen. Ngo Xuan Lich in Ha Noi on August 9 received Philippine Undersecretary of National Defence Lieut. Gen. Cardozo M. Luna.

August 10, 2018 2:03 PM GMT+7

At the reception, the Philippine guest expressed his hope that the effective realization of contents agreed by the two sides will contribute to further augmenting bilateral collaboration in a pragmatic, comprehensive and effective manner.

The defence ties between Viet Nam and the Philippines will focus on accelerating the implementation of an agreement on bilateral defence cooperation, deepening existing cooperation areas and increasing collaboration on a host of new areas such as young officer exchange, cooperation in defence industry, logistics and military medicine, and sharing of experience in joining UN peacekeeping operations.

For his part, Defence Minister Gen. Ngo Xuan Lich assured Viet Nam’s recognition of great importance to developing relations with the Philippines.

He welcomed Cardozo M. Luna’s visit to Viet Nam and his participation in the Viet Nam-Philippines defence policy dialogue, which is to be a very important mechanism aiming to reach common perceptions on regional and international security issues as well as agreed upon measures to push forward bilateral defence ties.

High-ranking leaders of the two countries consented to upgrade bilateral relations to strategic partnership in 2015, ushering a new development period of the two countries’ relationship across a variety of fields, especially defence. Both sides have intensified all-level delegation exchange and cooperation in naval affairs, law enforcement at sea and personnel training, Lich said.
