People’s Army marks 70th founding anniversary

VGP – A celebration was held on December 15 in the northern province of Cao Bang to mark the 70th founding anniversary of the Viet Nam People’s Army (1944-2014); and the 25th anniversary of All People’s National Defence Festival (1989-2014).

At the event, Tran Hung Dao Forest was  announced as the Special National Relic.

The event drew the attendance of State President Truong Tan Sang, National Assembly Vice Chairman Huynh Ngoc Son, as well as relatives of late General Vo Nguyen Giap.

The event looked back 70 years of construction, fighting, victory and growth of the People’s Army. Leader Nguyen Ai Quoc in October, 1944 in Pac Bo-Ha Quang (Cao Bang province) ordered Comrade Vo Nguyen Giap to establish the Armed Propaganda Brigade for the Liberation of Viet Nam.

The Brigade was officially formed with 34 soldiers on December 22, 1944 at Tran Hung Dao forest in Tam Kim commune, Nguyen Binh district, Cao Bang province.

Over the past 70 years, the People’s Army has grown up and joined with the whole Party and people to succeed in the August Revolution in 1945; achieve glorious feats of arms at the national resistance wars against the French colony and US empire; protect the fatherland; and conduct international missions./.
