Party chief in talks with Brazilian President

VNGOP - Brazilian President Luis Ignacio Lula da Silva warmly hosted a solemn welcoming ceremony given to Party General Secretary Nông Đức Mạnh at the Presidential Palace in the capital Brasilia on May 29.

Addressing the talks after that, President Lula da Silva praised Vietnam’s development and poverty reduction achievements, considering them valuable experience not only for Brazil but also developing nations and the international community in implementing the UN Millennium Development Goals.

After the talks, General Secretary Nông Đức Mạnh and President Luis Ignacio Lula da Silva witnessed the signing ceremony of a health and medicine cooperation agreement between Vietnam and Brazil.

The two leaders also presided over a press conference in which they emphasized that the Vietnamese Communist Party chief's visit to Brazil marked the beginning of a new era in the Vietnam-Brazil relationship and prospect for their bilateral cooperation on international arena, thereby contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in Southeast Asia, Latin America and the world at large.
On May 29, General Secretary Nông Đức Mạnh met with Senator Tiao Viana, Acting President of the Brazilian Senate, and Deputy Arlindo Chinaglia, President of the Chamber of Deputies. He also received leaders from the Workers’ Party (PT), the current left-wing ruling party in Brazil, and the Communist Party of Brazil (PCdoB).

The Party chief and leaders of the Brazilian legislative bodies shared the view to further bolster friendly activities and the exchange of experience and information between the Vietnamese National Assembly and Brazilian Senate and Chamber of Deputies.

PT and PCdoB leaders highly valued General Secretary Nông Đức Mạnh’s visit, considering it a direct support of the Vietnamese communists and people for progressive left-wing movements for national independence, sovereignty, socio-economic development, civil rights, equality and social progress in Brazil in particular and in Latin America in general.
The Vietnamese Party leader affirmed that Vietnam always supports and makes big contributions to the world people’s common struggle. The Vietnamese Communist Party and people are willing to promote the exchange of delegations to share and learn experiences from each other, helping boost the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Brazil, General Secretary Nông Đức Mạnh added.
