Party chief highlights EU’s prioritised position

VGP - Viet Nam always regards the European Union (EU) a top important partner which enjoys a prioritised position in Viet Nam’s foreign policy, said Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

The Party chief made the point on August 29 in Ha Noi at a reception to the Head of the EU delegation to Viet Nam Ambassador Franz Jessen.

General Secretary Trong said the signing of the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA) and the start of the negotiation on a free trade agreement are not only new important milestones, but also challenges to both sides that require political determination, goodwill and sincere cooperation for the best result.

He hoped that the EU diplomat would contribute to promoting the friendship and cooperation between Viet Nam and the EU.

Ambassador Franz Jessen said that he would promote the comprehensive cooperative relations between the EU and Viet Nam, regarding this as the most important task in his term of office.

The EU, said Mr. Franz Jessen pledges to assist Viet Nam’s efforts in building and developing the economy, implementing its renewal process and facilitating its international integration./.
