Party General Secretary concluded Latin American tour

VNGOP – General Secretary Nông Đức Mạnh and the Vietnamese high-ranking delegation left Santiago de Cuba on June 03, wrapping up the official visit to four Latin American countries in success.

General Secretary Nông Đức Mạnh attends the Cuba-Vietnam friendly public meeting

On the way home, General Secretary Nông Đức Mạnh sent a thank-you message to Cuban leaders, Fidel and Raul Castro, expressing his satisfaction with results of the visit. In the message, he also showed his pleasure at the comprehensive achievements recently gained by the Cuban people and at Cuba's improved role and prestige in the region and the world.

The General Secretary confirmed that his talks and meetings between the senior leaders of the two countries as well as cooperation documents signed during the visit are evidence of the friendship, solidarity, faithfulness, mutual trust and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba.
Previously on the same day, in the final leg of his visit, the Party General Secretary visited Santiago de Cuba Province where he attended a public meeting at the Mariana Grajales Academy. Speaking at the meeting, the Vietnamese Party leader reaffirmed that Vietam always stands shoulder by shoulder with Cuba in the struggle for national independence, freedom and socialist construction.
Concluding his speech
, General Secretary Nông Đức Mạnh emphasized Vietnam and Cuba should closely work together to nurture their traditional solidarity and comprehensive cooperation for the two people's happiness and prosperity, for the sake of peace, national independence, democracy, social progress, cooperation and development in Southeast Asia, Latin America and the world.

Cuba and Vietnam made a joint declaration.

In an interview at the end of the tour, Deputy PM Nguyễn Sinh Hùng, who has accompanied the General Secretary throughout his Latin American tour, said that high-level agreements reached during the visits helped solidify cooperative ties and friendship between Vietnam and Chile, Brazil, Venezuela and Cuba as well as Latin American countries in general, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in Southeast Asia, Latin America and the world as a whole.
