PVN starts building biggest gas pipe in VN

VGP – PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng today ordered to start the construction of a 400-km gas pipe Lot B-Ô Môn, invested by the Việt Nam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam – PVN) with about US $1 billion, in the Mekong Delta city of Cần Thơ.

The gas pipe, the biggest of its kind ever built in Việt Nam, has a socio-economic significance not only in the Mekong Delta but also the whole country, said PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng at the groundbreaking ceremony.

The pipe is supposed to guarantee energy security, save a large sum of foreign currencies spent on importing petroleum products, and generate more jobs.

The Government chief required local authorities of five cities and provinces (Cần Thơ, Hậu Giang, Kiên Giang, Bạc Liêu, and Cà Mau) where the pipe runs through to create best conditions for investors and contractors to complete the project on schedule.

The gas pipe Lot B-Ô Môn runs nearly 400 km, including 246 km in the sea and 152 km inland, and can carry 18.3 million cubic meters of gas per day to fuel several power plants and an industrial park as well as serve consumers in the western part of South Việt Nam.

According to PVN, the pipe can be connected to the gas pipe network of Southeast Asia.
