The PM made the remark while chairing a meeting of the state steering committee for building and developing the defence-security industry in Ha Noi on September 20.

Amid the changing regional and international situation, the Government, together with the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Public Security, have always paid attention to speeding up the development of the defence-security industry, he said.

He noted that the industry has recorded standout transformations and breakthroughs with regards to its weapon and equipment manufacturing and repair capabilities over the past few years, contributing to strengthening the national defense and security potential, he said.

In addition, the defence-security industry has successfully manufactured and repaired a number of new high-tech products, thus partially meeting the demand for weapons and technical equipment of the armed forces, reducing imports and saving the State budget, PM Phuc stated.

He suggested that the defense industry apply the latest scientific and technological advances, whilst enhancing the capacity of researching, designing, manufacturing, repairing, upgrading and modernizing weapons, technical equipment and professional supporting tools.

Products manufactured by the defense industry must be competitive and exportable, on the basis of mastering the technology and increasing the ratio of localization, contributing to gradually modernizing the People’s Army and People’s Public Security forces, the Government leader insisted.

He asked members of the steering committee and relevant ministries and departments to promote their role, responsibility and coordination to speed up the implementation of programs and plans, aiming to ensure the successful realization of the set targets in the spirit of the Politburo’s direction on accelerating the development of the defence-security industry in the new period.
