PM urges coastal provinces to protect fishermen from Mindulle storm

VGP – PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng on Monday afternoon issued a written telegraph, urging coastal provinces to call back fishermen offshore to find safe shelters as Typhoon Mindulle is tracking up Việt Nam’s eastern coast.

The Government chief also asked the localities to especially pay attention to evacuating people away from dangerous areas.

Tropical storm Mindulle was 120 kilometers northeast of the central city of Đà Nẵng, at about 4 AM this morning. Last night, the storm dumped heavy rain in Lý Sơn Island (Đà Nẵng) and some areas in Thừa Thiên-Huế Province.

Winds generated by the storm are forecast to strengthen to 111 kilometers per hour as it approaches northern Việt Nam today, the U.S. Navy Joint Typhoon Warning Center said.

The storm is about to reach central provinces at about 10 PM, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF).

The biggest challenge is how to conduct rescue work in heavy rain, said an official at the meeting of the Central Committee for Flood and Storm Control (CCFSC) convened this morning. Flash-flood is also another threat.

Speaking at the meeting, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Đức Phát urged central provinces to protect residents’ houses and prepare human and material resources to cope with the storm.
