Hoi An has been a credited tourist brand favored by both locals and foreigners in Viet Nam thanks to various advantages, including good preservation of tourist sides and convenient transport connectivity with other heritages in the central region.

PM Phuc however asked the city’s authorities to harmonize the relationship between growth and environmental protection and cultural preservation as well as between growth and social security.

It is necessary to improve the efficiency of managing, preserving and promoting the value of cultural heritage, mobilize resources to invest in restoring ancient streets, revolutionary historical relic sites, and traditional trade villages, he emphasized.

PM Phuc called on each individual in Hoi An and Quang Nam to have responsibility for maintaining and promoting the values of tangible and intangible cultural heritage, and on the need to develop community-based tourism.

The Government chief also required leaders of Quang Nam province and ministries and sectors to help Hoi An build its urban development planning by 2030 with a vision to 2050, a project on special policies and mechanisms to preserve and promote the value of the world cultural heritage to serve the city’s development in the time ahead.

The ancient town was classified as a National Cultural Heritage Site in 1985 and subsequently as a Special National Cultural Heritage Site under the Cultural Heritage Law of 2001 amended in 2009.

Last year, the city welcomed more than 3.2 million visitors, up nearly 200% compared to 10 years ago, raising the share of tourism-service-trade in the local economy’s GDP to 70%, official statistics show.
