Especially, Xuan Loc district and Long Khanh town in the southern province of Dong Nai were suggested for recognition for new-style rural areas at the district level.

In the 2016-2020 period, the National Target Program aims to help 50% of communes reach the new-style rural area standards; complete essential facilities for developing production and serving daily life of rural residents; increase the income of rural residents to 2.5 times, decrease the rate of poor households by 2% per year and strive for 80% of rural residents covered by health insurance. It is also planned that averagely each commune across the country will reach 15 of the 19 criteria of new-style rural areas.
