At the meeting, Chairman of Da Nang City’s People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Tho said that cargo via Da Nang port grew by 16.2% annually (22.6% per year for container) and is forecast to reach nearly 10 million tons by 2020, and about 30 million tons by 2030.

In 2018, the cargo via Da Nang port is estimated at 8.4 million tons, which is beyond the capacity of the port’s Tien Sa and Son Tra wharves post 2020, negatively affecting the environment and local people’s lives.

Lien Chieu seaport is located on the area of 220 ha with the total investment of VND32,860 billion. The first phase of the project (till 2022) will be invested with more than VND7,370 billion.

Speaking at the meeting, the PM stressed the necessity of construction of a new seaport as the overloaded cargo via TienSa port caused traffic jams and accidents.

He welcomed the city’s authorities and the Ministry of Transport to propose guidelines of drawing private investments in the construction of Lien Chieu port, asking Da Nang City, the Ministries of Transport and Investment and Planning to soon launch the project.
