Since the early this year, Việt Nam has exported over 2.2 million tons of rice, an increase of 19% in terms of quantity and a double in the area of value as compared with the same period last year.

According to the latest report released by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), both the Winter-Spring crop in the North and Summer-Autumn harvest in the South are bumper. The overall year-rice quantity is expected to reach around 37 million tons, an approximate increase of over 1 million ton against 2007. In 2008, Việt Nam may export totally over 4.5 million tons of rice.

Therefore, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng requested that the Ministry of Industry and Trade and MARD speed up rice purchase and ensure the most effective rice export.
