The Vietnamese PM’s first official visit to Laos aims to tighten the special, traditional and comprehensive relationship between the two nations.

The Viet Nam-Laos relations have been strengthened effectively in all fields of national defense-security, diplomacy, economics, trade and investment, education-training, human resource development, transport, science-technology, agriculture, culture, tourism, and cooperation between their ministries, agencies and localities.

The two sides have closely supported each other at international and regional forums, joined hands with ASEAN nations to establish the ASEAN Community and consented to address strategic issues in the region.

Since 1989, Viet Nam’s total investment in Laos has reached nearly US$4 billion. In 2016, the two-way trade turnover attained more than US$800 million.

Viet Nam has always assisted Laos in its national development and poverty reduction. The two countries have focused on upgrading the transport system, facilitating mutual trade development and investment.

In 2017, the two nations will join hands in celebrating the 55thanniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties and the 40th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on Amity and Cooperation.
