The PM said he was convinced that the meeting would make important contribution to cementing and deepening  the comprehensive partnership between the two countries.

The host leader took the occasion to congratulate Myanmar on its recent socio-economic development achievements.

Viet Nam always supports Myanmar's efforts to promote the national peace and reconciliation process, he said.

In reply, Minister U Kyaw Tin highlighted the flourishing bilateral relationship, which was set up in 1975 and has been unceasingly enhanced through mutual high-ranking visits.

Economic, trade, and investment ties are also flourishing and have much room to expand, he said, noting that the countries’ leaders set the bilateral trade target at US$ 1 billion in 2020.

The Minister also congratulated Viet Nam on its major economic attainments and the successful organization of the second summit between the U.S. and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, thus actively contributing to global peace and stability.

At the meeting, PM Phuc asked both sides to bolster partnerships in economy, trade, and investment because there remains much potential and many cooperation opportunities.

They need better mechanisms to promote cooperation for common development, he added.

He affirmed Viet Nam’s continued support for Myanmar at multilateral forums and called for further coordination, especially as Viet Nam holds the ASEAN Chair in 2020 and is running for a non-permanent seat in the UN Security Council for 2020-2021./.
