PM receives Malaysian DPM

VGP – PM Nguyen Tan Dung has affirmed that Viet Nam attaches great importance to fostering cooperation with Malaysia with the aim of bringing practical benefits for both sides.

PM Dung made the statement at his reception on October 17 for Malaysian Deputy PM and Minister of Education Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

The PM applauded the talks between Deputy PM Muhyiddin Yassin and Vietnamese Deputy PM Nguyen Thien Nhan, saying the visit will accelerate the cooperative between the two sides in all fields.

He proposed the two sides organize the meeting of the joint cooperation committee in a bid to effectively launch cooperation in such areas as economics, trade, investment, tourism, education and training.

He also suggested the two nations sign a cooperative agreement on food security and labor as well as coordination in Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiation.

The PM said he expected that Viet Nam and Malaysia will strengthen cooperation in maintaining peace and stability, marine security and safety in the East Sea, deal with conflicts based on the international law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea in 1982, implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and formulate a Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC).

Deputy PM Muhyiddin Yassin revealed that his visit aims to push up the cooperation in all fields, focusing on education and training and agriculture. 

The two sides signed a memorandum of understanding on higher education and human resources training to enhance the student exchanges and create favorable conditions for Vietnamese students to study in Malaysia.

He asserted that Malaysia will closely cooperate with Viet Nam in TPP negotiations and do its utmost to raise two-way trade value.

Earlier on the same day, Deputy PM Nguyen Thien Nhan hed talks with Malaysian Deputy PM and Minister of Education Muhyiddin Yassin.

The Vietnamese leader stressed that the Malaysian Deputy PM’s visit on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties will boost the bilateral relations.

He also lauded recent achievements of Malaysia, hoping that Malaysia will realize successfully the New Economic Model and the Wawasan 2020.

The Malaysian leader said he was impressed with the development Viet Nam has recorded after 30 years of implementing the renovation process. He expected that Viet Nam will effectively realise the goals set for the year 2020 and become an industrial country.  

Mentioning two-way trade turnover in 2012 of US$8 billion, Deputy PM Nguyen Thien Nhan stated that the Vietnamese Government will create favorable conditions for Malaysian investors to invest in building hotels, new urban areas, producing electronics and seafood processing.

The two sides agreed to realize high-level agreements on national security and defense, labor, oil and gas, education-training, agriculture and seafood.

After the talks, Deputy PM Muhyiddin Yassin signed a Memorandum of Understanding on higher education cooperation with Vietnamese Minister of Education and Training Pham Vu Luan.
