At the meeting, the PM expressed his hope that the visit will strengthen the special traditional relationship between the two nations in general and defense cooperation in particular.

The Vietnamese army and people are willing to support Lao army and people in its national development and defense, he affirmed.

Reporting to the Vietnamese PM outcomes of the talks with Deputy Defense Minister and Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army Phan Van Giang, Mr. Suvon Luongbunmi announced that the two sides reviewed cooperation works in 2017 and proposed specific cooperative measures in 2018 and in the upcoming time.

In 2017, the two countries’ Defense Ministries enhanced cooperation in all fields. The Vietnamese Ministry of Defense actively supported the Lao side in building forces, making contributions to realizing the national socio-economic development tasks.

The two sides joined hands in facilitating people living in Viet Nam-Laos border areas, said Mr. Suvon Luongbunmi, adding that the two nations consented to promote training activities and join hands in establishing a border line of peace and comprehensive development.

PM Phuc asked the two sides’ armies to focus on preventing and struggling against human trafficking and drug crimes as well as coordinate in personnel training.
