The PM made that statement on May 24 at his reception for Australian Governor-General Peter Cosgrove who is paying a four-day State visit to Viet Nam.

At the meeting, the two sides expressed delight on the two nations’ achievements made over the recent 45 years, including the two-way trade value of USD6.5 billion in 2017 and 414 projects invested by Australia in Viet Nam as well as cooperation in such areas as security-defense, education-training and science-technology.

Mr. Phuc suggested both sides soon launch new cooperative mechanisms and frameworks such as economic partnership, agriculture partnership, renovation partnership and foreign ministerial-level meetings.

He asked to enhance measures to accelerate two-way trade and investment, including reduction and elimination of trade barriers and facilitate the two sides’ business communities.

Mr. Peter Cosgrove advocated Australia continuing to provide the Official Development Assistance (ODA) for Viet Nam, especially in fields of high demand such as infrastructure, agriculture and rural development, poverty reduction, climate change adaption, training high-quality human resources and highly valuing the completion of Cao Lanh Bridge.

Regarding international and regional issues, the two leaders highly valued both countries’ cooperation at the UN, ASEAN and other multi-lateral forums, asserting to closely join hands in addressing the East Sea issues and realizing the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
