PM proposes deferral of monthly wage increases from July 1

VGP – PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc has proposed the National Assembly to consider and pass special mechanisms and policies in the post COVID-19 period.

May 21, 2020 3:18 PM GMT+7

Specifically, the Government chief suggested the law making body defer monthly basic wage increases for public servants, public employees and those working in the armed forces and pension for retired people, which had been planned to apply from July 1.

The move targets to mobilize resources to support laborers affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and for other urgent tasks.

In November last year, the National Assembly approved a government proposal to raise salary for civil servants by 7.3% from July 1, 2020. This would be the boldest salary hike in the past eight years. The previous salary raise was a 7.2% hike, effective from July 1, 2019.

Currently, Viet Nam’s regional minimum monthly salary is divided into four different levels, with VND4.18 million (US$179) for region 1, VND3.71 million (US$159) for region 2, VND3.25 million (US$139) for region 3, and VND2.92 million (US$125) for region 4./.
